Windhoek — The Police at Oshakati report that two brothers, aged 10 and seven, drowned in a pond near Oshakati's Kandjengedi bridge on Friday afternoon.
It is believed that the two boys had been fishing in the pond. According to reports, the youngest boy fell into the water and his brother went in to help him. Police have retrieved their bodies. In another drowning, a two-year-old girl drowned at Omaalala village in the Oshana Region on Friday.
The girl went fishing with her mother in the local oshana. The mother put down the child near the water while she went into the deep water to fish. She only noticed later that her daughter was missing. The names of the children have not yet been released.
The latest deaths brought to 57 the number of people who have drowned in the central-northern regions since the start of the main rainy season at the end of January.
