Luanda — Former Angolan international soccer player Joaquim Diniz considered that the development of female soccer depends on creation of a state policy aimed at implementing this sport in schools.
In a statement to ANGOP, here, ahead of the Cosafa Cup in fames, which Angola will host on 3-10 May (Malanje and Benguela Provinces are the venues for the first phase), he stressed that female soccer needs to be reactivated.
He referred that the holding of this competition in the country is an opportunity to re-launch female football and schools will play an important role in this process.
Joaquim Diniz added that it is also necessary for clubs to include in their respective action programmes, female soccer development projects, just like it happens in male football.
He highlighted that the national soccer squad reached a high competitive level, which allows them to play as equals against any African country, despite acknowledging that the internal competition goes through low moments.
Angola participated in a first female international competition in 2006, in Zambia.
In that competition, the national female squad, also named "Welwitschias", were eliminated in the first phase.
