Cameroon: And Free Us From Dependency

Never before in the history of Cameroon has the prices of food stuff witnessed such inflation.

Measures taken by the Government to curb the price hikes seem not to be yielding the expected results. But the question many people are asking is: must Cameroon depend on imported rice, fish, wheat, sugar, etc, when the country has all what it takes to produce these goods for the home market and even export the remainder?

Yes, we can do it. Because we did it before! Cameroon is blessed with fertile soil, wide-ranging vegetation and assorted climate that favours the cultivation of a variety of food crops. All what we need is a vision, lots of determination and hard work. The country has all what it takes to be self sufficient in food. Ask me why and I will tell you.

Go to Foumbot and see the tons of tomatoes that get rotten each day, go to Ndop and see the abandoned rice farms, go to Bome in Mbengwi and see the deserted fish farming station...the examples abound. In times like these, Cameroonians should be reciting: give us this day, our daily seedlings, machines and fertilisers. And lead us not into the temptation of food dependency and deliver us from imported products. Amen.
