A total of 14 Tanzanian athletes leave for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, today to compete in the African championship that gets underway on Wednesday.
The secretary general of Athletics Tanzania, Suleiman Nyambui, named them as Faustine Musa, Hamis Mkadamu, Muhidin Yassin, Marko Joseph, Kulwa Rushega, Arnold Longung'a and Ezekiel Japhary.
Others are Damian Chopa, Makame Ally, Natalia Joseph, Sara Ramadhani, Janeth John, Fabiola William and Fabian Joseph.
However. while those athletes head for Addis, the three marathon runners, Getuli Bayo, Samson Ramadhani and Msenduki Mohammed, are still training in Arusha.
The trio have been training with other athletes who are also looking forward to winning a berth to represent the country in the Olympics.
They are Zakia Mrisho (5,000m) and Samwel Mwera (800m and 1500m). Others are Hamis Mkadarly (400m), Joseph John, Gibe Watara (800/1500m);
Daniel Sumuni, John Yuda, Samwel Kwang and Damian Chopa (5000-10,000m) as well as Andrew Silvin, Joseph Itambo, Pendo Japhet, Jackline Sakilu and Janeth (800-1500m).
The results of the continental championships will not count for qualifying in the Olympics, according to Nyambui.
