28 April 2008

The Federal Government has expressed dismay over the way Lagos state government has embarked on launching of the Eko Atlantic city project without its [FG's] consent.

The Minister for Environment, Housing and Urban Development, Mrs. Halima Tayo Alao, in a statement signed by her chief press secretary, Clement Egbeama, said "attention of the ministry has been drawn to the launch of Eko Atlantic City Project of the Lagos State Government which took place last Wednesday.

She said: "The Federal government wishes to state that the Lagos State government is fully aware of the various efforts to resolve the issues surrounding the project amicably before the project can be embarked upon.

"The unilateral decision of the Lagos State Government to embark on the launch is inimical to efforts to resolve these issues to the satisfaction of all concerned."

The statement added that the Federal Government wishes to inform members of the public to know that it was not in any way consulted or connected with the event.
