Liberia: SFCG Build Radio Station in Cape Mount

28 April 2008

The Search for Common Ground Talking Drum Studio Liberia announces the completion of the construction of a community Radio Station and its subsequent turn over to the people of Grand Cape Mount County.

Search for Common Ground Liberia says the radio is built in the town of Senje with power transmission of 1,000 watts. The radio was constructed at the request of the people of Grand Cape Mount in a memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between their selected Board of Directors headed by Mrs. Magdaline Fahnbulleh and the Search for Common Ground a year ago.

"This radio station is for you, the Cape Mount people to use for reconciliation and development, ", said Frances Fortune, SFCG Africa Director at a recent turn over meeting in the town of Senje.

Mrs. Fortune told the people of Cape Mount that the radio station was built with support from the Rhode Island based Foundation for West Africa, the Canadian Government, Action Aid Liberia, the Cape Mount Community and the Search for Common Ground which implemented the radio station construction project.

The radio station is made of modern studio facilities, a state of the art antenna field and a good-looking building, as stated by the release.

The people of Grand Cape Mount have meanwhile declared the radio station as their most viable development initiative yet, since the end of the Liberian Civil War.

Senje Radio Station Board Chairman, Magdaline Fahnbulleh said that the presence of a radio station would undoubtedly facilitate rapid development in the county and the country.

The People through the Board Chairman have announced that the official opening ceremony for the radio station will coincide with President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf's next cabinet meeting which will take place next month in Grand Cape Mount County. Meanwhile, Under the MOU, the community takes the responsibility to run the radio station.
