AS part of the preparation for the maiden edition of The People Police Marathon, the Inspector General of Police, Sir Mike Okiro, will be hosting the business elites to a dinner on Friday, May 9 at the Lagoon Restaurant, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The programme, which commences from 6 pm, will attract CEOs of blue chip firms across all sectors of the economy as well as eminent citizens carefully selected.
The dinner will afford decision makers in the private and public sectors to rub minds on how sports can be used to achieve a more friendly and robust relationship between the police and the people that they are constitutionally empowered to protect. The marathon, under the theme "Race against crime," aims at dousing the tension and suspicion that exists between the people and the police in Nigeria.
All over the world; especially in Europe and America, the people and the police are partners in detecting and combating crime. The people give the police voluntary information that usually leads to the arrest of criminals wherever they may be.
The People Police Marathon will be ran into three categories - the 21km race, 10km race and the 1km VIP or IG race.
The 21km elite race is billed for trained runners from within and outside the country. In this category, female athletes are excluded from participation for health and other logistics reasons. The winner in this category will go home with the sum of N2 million.

The 10km mass race is expected to be more inclusive as it will involve less physical exertion and winners will also be rewarded with fabulous prizes. Women are encouraged to register and participate in this category.
The third category is the VIP race christened the IG race, which will involve VIPs, including Police Commissioners, captains of industry and High Networth Individuals (HNIs). They will run to raise funds for charities of their choice.
Apart from the grand finale slated for June 28 in Abuja, there will be regional races whose dates and venues will soon be announced.
