NATIONAL boxing coach Jimenez Gonzalez is not happy with UABF's pace in boxer Ronald Serugo's preparations for the Beijing Olympics.

"We've trained only once in three weeks," recently complained the Cuban, who is supposed to be fine-tuning Serugo for a pre-Olympic tournament in Taiwan next month.

Gonzalez had, immediately after Serugo's qualification for Beijing last month, planned to take the fighter through serious power building drills.

UABF sources revealed that the Cuban's failure to regularly train Serugo was due to a delay by the federation to avail him with a motorcycle.

Most of the 225 Beijing-bound pugilists will converge in the Taiwan capital Taipei for the Beijing games' final tune up.

Uganda failed to participate in the 2004 version of the pre-Olympic tournament in Athens.

UABF vice president Stephen Aciga described the tournament as a crucial event that Serugo must not miss.

Uganda , with only Serugo, will be fielding its smallest boxing team in the prestigious quadrennial event.

Ugandan boxers have consistently featured in the Olympics since the 1960 Rome Games.

The Bombers, who boast of two Olympic silvers and two bronze medals, only missed the 1976 edition in protest of New Zealand's visit to apartheid South Africa. Canada hosted the Games.
