An electric fire last Friday demolished the upper flat of the duplex of the General Manager, GM, of the Cameroon Telecommunications, CAMTEL, David Nkotto Emane, at Nkomo, a few kilometres from Yaounde.

The fire broke out about 6.30 am from one of the room sleeping rooms. Fortunately, the GM's children had already left the four-room flat and were breakfasting for school downstairs.

Though it is unclear what really caused the incident, an electric iron forgotten on the socket after ironing, apparently by the kids as they hurried for school, might have caused a spark.

Neighbours told The Post that the GM and his wife who were still in bed in upstairs managed to find their way out through an external detour.

Efforts to reach the fire brigade in Yoaunde were futile. Gendarmes who were on guard beside the fire brigade at the Mimboman neighbourhood contacted to alert fire extinguishers; who reached the scene an hour later.

Albeit all valuable contents of the upstairs flat had been razed, the fire was checked from extending downstairs and beyond. The GM, The post learnt been has relocated at a government-given apartment in the Bastos neighbourhood in Yaounde.
