Lagos — Three hundred and thirty four projects executed by the NDDC across the region are ready for commissioning. This is 46 projects far more than the 288 earlier scheduled for commissioning by the Commission.
A break down of the figure shows that 38 of the projects are located in Abia State, 47 in Akwa Ibom, 31 in Bayelsa, 2 in Cross River and 57 in Delta State. Others are Edo, 62, Imo, 33, Ondo, 44 and Rivers 20.
Some of the projects are mega while the rest fall within medium and small level categories. One of such projects, the Biseni Water Scheme located at Biseni, a Coastal Community in Bayelsa State, has a surface water treatment facility.
The 27,000 Gallons Capacity Water Scheme has 2no. 3Hp Suction pumps with screens, which are mounted on floaters.
The project, which is the first of its kind in the region, also has 3 trains each consisting of aeration units, 9 units of non- chemical media, 9 micro filter and 1no. UV System.
Other ancilliary facilities attached to the project include 6-room operation building, steel access step way and platform to containers drainage, shore protection and pressed steel tank.
In the words of the Paramount Ruler of the Community, the Ibedaowei of Biseni, the journey towards solving the problem of water scarcity in Biseni has been tortuous.
"To us, it is like a dream come true that this is happening, particularly in my life time, we can not thank NDDC enough, the history of this community will not be complete without what the NDDC is doing in Biseni" the Royal Father told Newsmen.
The 33 KV Ukwa main electrification feeder line rehabilitated by the NDDC is also billed for commissioning and not the Obehie electrification project as previously announced.
The project located at Ngwaiyiekwe, Ugwunagbo, involves the rehabilitation of 3 Km vandalized 33Kv of transmission line to restore power to over 30 deprived communities in Ukwa West and Ukwa East Local Government Area.
The Ojobo - Tamigbe - Bomadi Road/Drainages is another of such Mega projects billed for commissioning. The 7.28Km Road project covers dredging and stockpiling of river sand, culverts, drainage and 3 bridges.
The road connects riverine Communities of Tamigbe - Ojobo, Tuomo and other several Communities otherwise accessible by only river transport. Of note is the fact that the Ojobo flow station, operated by the Shell Petroleum Nigeria Limited is located in the area.
There is also the Ukwa -Umuagbai Road connecting major oil bearing communities in Ukwa East, Abia State; Egbeda - Ubimini -Ikiri - Omoku Road and Bridge linking three Local Government Areas of Rivers State. Also completed and billed for commissioning is the Solar Powered Ozata Water Project in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State.
The 20,000 gallons capacity water project has 1.5 - 3 Hp Solar Powered pumps with 5/7 KVA DC inventor and Battery bank of 1,000 Amperes hours.
