Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr. Ade Abdurin has said the security outfit will motivate its 10 athletes to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in order to win Gold medals for the country.

As part of preparations for the games which comes up in August, Europe based athletes led by Olusoji Fasuba would depart Europe for Ethiopia to participate in the Africa athletics championship. He stated this weekend during the first National Sports Commission and Athletics Federation of Nigeria Relay meet at the National Stadium, Abuja.

Dr. Abdurin, who led all civil defenders to cheer up the athletes, said all the 10 athletes both in Europe and Nigeria would be adequately motivated to achieve results in Beijing.

"Everything needed to motivate them to win Gold would be given to them. Most of our athletes are professionals and they are self dependent, but we are giving them the needed financial assistance and all other things will follow. As far as the Corps is concerned, our culture is to give athletes what belongs to them. This will enhance their performances. We are building a culture in the corps that will continue. This is a legacy that is already planted and would be built upon by the incoming administration."

Africa's fastest man, Olusoji Fasuba, Franka Idoko, Uche Isaac and others are all staff of the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps.
