Francistown — A threat to kill suspect has dismissed claims that he uttered the threats for no apparent reason as a 'pure fabrication.'

Madise Moroke was arrested and detained for 48 hours before he was granted bail. Giving his side of the story in Mochudi Magistrate's court this week Madisa said that the truth of the matter was that on the night he threatened his ex-girlfriend, Malebogo Lilian Modise, 26, he had found her with another lover in bed .

The lover escaped through the window, he said, and went on to deny having a knife at that time as alleged by Modise. He further stated that he made threats to cut off her head because he was extremely enraged. Meanwhile Modise had stated earlier on that she was threatened by Moroke, otherwise known as Soft on December 10th 2005.

" He showed up at my house at 3 O'clock in the morning and woke me up, demanding to talk to me. When I told him that I did not want to talk to him, he then produced what I believed was a knife. Although it was dark I am positive that I heard the click sound of a knife opening. I could also identify him as I know his voice very well. I even went further and asked who was there and he told me that it was him. He tried stabbing me but I jumped to safety on the other side of the bed and escaped through the window. "This was after I had tricked him into leaving the room by telling him that he must go outside so that we could talk like two adults." Modise further said she then escaped to her parents' house with Moroke in hot pursuit. The incident was reported to the Mochudi Police. When questioned by the police at his house, Moroke is alleged to have said to Modise in their presence, "Ke tla go kgaola tlhogo, etlare nako e e latelang goye go ripota tlhogo ya gago kgotsa mmele hela ko police" ( I will chop off your head so that next time you go and report me to the police it will either be only your head rolling to the station or just your headless body.

The case was adjourned to January 17th when judgment shall be delivered. Magistrate Peter Menseh Acheampong said this sort of threat is taken seriously as a lot of people who have threatened to kill had in gone ahead to carry out the threat. A threat to kill charge carries a prison term not exceeding ten years.
