Angola's National Assembly (Parliament) is meting Tuesday in Luanda to analyse, among other matters, a draft for alterations to the Law 5/94, of February 11, aiming at its adjustment to the organic structure of the Supreme Military Court currently in force.

The alterations will mainly focus on the substitution of the current Higher Council of the Military Justice as an instance of appeal over sentences on generals and other defendants tried by the Supreme Military Court.

The lack of the services of that institution is owed to the fact that the constitution and nominations of its members have an "ad hoc" character, in contrast with the articles 125th and 126th of the Constitution.

The introductory note explains that the "ad hoc" nomination of the judges does not guarantee a regular functioning of the institution and conflicts with the constitutional rights of equality and defence contained in the constitution.

The draft was submitted to Parliament on Tuesday last week by the deputy minister of Justice, Guilhermina Prata, and is meant for alterations to the articles 3rd, 18th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 25th and 28th of the Law 5/94.
