Luanda — Angolan Opposition Political Parties (POC) will hold their first National Convention on May 15 this year, to elect the new president of the presidium and outline the strategy for a colligation in the coming legislative elections set for September 2008. The information was released Tuesday in Luanda by POC executive secretary, Manuel Fernandes, during a press conference.
The politician explained that the first National Convention of the party will approve alterations to the internal regulations and adjust them to the new reality and elect a new colligation leadership.
The participants are also expected to approve the POC's draft governing programme for the 2008/2009 period and the electoral manifesto.
According to Manuel Fernandes, the candidatures for the presidency must be submitted eight days ahead of May 15, with all presidents of comprising parties being eligible to vie.
The official stated as well that at the end of the convention an electoral accord will be signed, engaging all member parties within the new dynamics the colligation wants to undertake.
The POC's executive secretary said as well that the National Convention is part of the colligation's strategy for the coming elections. The POC is a colligation established in 1994 and currently groups five political parties (CNDA, PSCA, PALMA, PPA and PNSA), against the previous 13.
