Luanda — The Transport Department of the National Police in Luanda will soon be transferred from its actual premises as the building housing it is threatened with collapse. This was announced Tuesday in Luanda by the deputy minister of Public Works, Joanes André, at the end of a visit to the site, following an evaluation to the building carried out by experts from the Angola Engineering Laboratory (LEA).
According to the source, the findings recommend the immediate evacuation of the building as it might crumble at any time. Joanes André said the building presents cracks, fissures and infiltrations of water on the walls. He stated as well that the head of the National Police Transport Department has been instructed to immediately move the services to another premises.
In his turn, the general commander of Angola's National Police, Ambrósio de Lemos, said that in the face of the findings, there is need for immediate evacuation, in response to the recommendations.
He pledged that now on his department will react promptly to any such sign of alert in order to avoid more disasters.
The building of the National Department of Criminal Investigation in Luanda collapsed on March 29, killing 30 people and injuring 145.
The Transport Department of the National Police, at Luanda's Avenida dos Combatentes, operates from that building since 1992.
