Botswana will be represented by five contestants in the MNet Idols reality show.

The contestants were revealed during the screening of the local audition which was held at the Grand Palm.

The show illustrated what transpired during the auditions which were held in the country last month.

The five contestants are already in Kenya where group stages are held, and viewers will have an opportunity to see the local contestants battling it out among the 100 contestants.

In an interview, Bonno Tirelo who attended the screening said she was impressed by the local talent and that she is confident that two local contestants will make the top 10.

Thelma Nnoko shared the same sentiments and said local contestants seemed more organised than others. She is certain they will make the top 10.

Multichoice Botswana public relations officer Tshepo Maphanyane said Batswana had fared well in the past reality shows and that she is confident that the trend will continue.

One of the judges Thato 'Scar' Matlhabaphiri also graced the event.

The award winning hip-hop artist said being a judge has given him exposure as he has met different people who are hungry for fame.

So far he has been tagged the toughest in the panel, but he maintains that he is not tough or mean.

He said he is simply being frank as they want to produce the best show as judges.

Scar said he knows what it takes to record. He said some of the contestants that they approved during the auditions have improved while some have deteriorated. He added that what is needed is talent.

The winner will walk away with about P480 000 and a recording contract with Sony BMG. BOPA
