Preparations for the world championship are progressing well.

The national under- 19 boys softball team is to take part in championship slated for Canada in June.

Sports Development Officer at Botswana Softball Association, Kenneth Kopano says the team stands a good chance of doing well at the championships.

Botswana and South Africa have automatically qualified to participate at the world championships after other African teams did not turn up for the qualifying games some citing financial problems constraints.

Kopano said that the boys played well against South Africa in a friendly game over the weekend. Although the team lost all its games in South Africa, Kopano is confident that the team will do well at the world championships.

He said that the boys displayed good play coupled with good batting and pitching. He said that the loss was due to panic. He said South Africa was not a strong team, and the boys could have won, but since the team was made of youth, they were intimidated .
