Windhoek — WOMEN'S Action for Development (WAD) will conduct extensive training in various fields of development in five poor rural communities during the remainder of this year, WAD Executive Director Veronica de Klerk said on Friday.
De Klerk, upon receiving a donation of N$70 000 from Old Mutual Namibia and Nedbank Namibia in Windhoek, said the training would be conducted in Katima Mulilo, Eenhana, Omuthiya, Rosh Pinah and Omaruru, after which participants will graduate from such training during a Field Day at each of the towns.
De Klerk said with their new qualifications, graduates would have the opportunity to find jobs.
She said since the establishment of WAD field days some 12 years ago, they have become very popular events among rural communities, due to their educative and informative nature.
"During these events, community members are brought closer to their decision-makers such as Cabinet ministers, governors, mayors, health professionals and educational experts to be more fully informed about the status of development in their respective regions, as well as the status of health and education and how communities can capitalise on those programmes to fast-track their own development and social well-being," she said.
De Klerk added that WAD would provide opportunities for Old Mutual Namibia and Nedbank Namibia to introduce their products and services to communities at WAD field days.
This mutually beneficial relationship between WAD and its partners clearly holds great potential for expansion in the future, she said.
