Harare — AT LEAST 14 tour operators and travel agents from Russia will jet into the country this weekend for a seven-day tour of Zimbabwe's tourism tapestries, as the country starts penetrating the vibrant Russian tourism market.

The visit is a follow-up to two exhibitions by the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority in Moscow, Russia, in March in which it signed tourism marketing and development deals with tourist wholesalers in that country.

ZTA communications and public relations manager Mrs Anna Moyo, yesterday said the tour operators and agents were coming as part of ZTA's Perception Management Programme.

"The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority will be hosting 14 tour operators and agents who are coming on a Business mission from Saturday May 3 to May 10 2008.

"The visit comes as a result of Zimbabwe's participation at Russia's Major Tourism Exhibitions: the Intourmarket and Moscow International Tourism and Travel Exhibitions which took place from March 15 to 22 2008," she said.

The Russians will visit tourist attractions in Harare, Masvingo, Bulawayo, Hwange and Victoria Falls.

In Harare, the Russians will be taken to teeming suburb of Mbare, the National Heroes Acre, Westgate Shopping Mall, the Epworth Balancing Rocks and the Kopje, among other attractions.

They will also have a night out at

the Harare International Festival of the Arts, before departing to Masvingo.

In Masvingo, the operators and agents will visit the Great Zimbabwe National Monuments, Lodge at the Ancient City and Nemanwa Village, among others.

In Bulawayo they will visit Southern Africa's largest natural museum, the Natural History Museum and Matopos National Park for game viewing, rock paintings, boulders and enchanting nature views.

They will also visit one of Zimbabwe's last vestiges of untamed wildlife the Hwange National Park before venturing into the tourism hub of Victoria Falls on Wednesday.

It is at the Victoria Falls that the tour operators and agents are expected to cover almost every attraction in three days before returning to Harare, enroute to Moscow.

The visit by the Russians is expected to be followed up by ZTA road shows in Moscow in June and July.
