THE Ministry of Works is seeking sh2.2b from donors to build a new bridge on the Gulu-Kitgum-Pader road, writes Chris Ocowum.

During an interview on Tuesday, the principal executive engineer in charge of bridges in Gulu, Aloysius Orach, said the bridge on Aswa River was damaged by floods last year.

The dilapidated slabs sometimes collapse, especially when heavy trucks use the bridge. Orach said the design and the feasibility study of the project were completed and they were only awaiting funds. "The European Union has expressed interest in funding the project."

The Gulu resident district commissioner, Col. Walter Ochora, urged residents to be patient as President Yoweri Museveni would soon fulfil his pledge of building a new bridge.

According to Ochora, the works would start soon. Last year, the bridge was submerged by floods and traffic was diverted to Apyeta Bridge on the Gulu-Palaro- Palabek road in Kitgum district.
