Nigeria: Fasuba Gears Up for African Challenge in Addis Ababa

Olusoji Fasuba will try to tighten his grip on the men 100m at the African Championships, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and test his 2008 Olympics resolve the Championships enter day two with the final of the 100m scheduled for late afternoon.

At the conclusion of the first round heats yesterday Fasuba who for two seasons remained on beaten on the continent was placed second. But the African Champion who was only running to qualify has geared up for the rough road to the final.

He will be facing stiff competition from compatriots Uche Isaac, Obinna Metu and Uchenna Emedolu and Ghanaian Eric Nkansah. Emedolu ran the second fastest time of the rounds with 10.39seconds. Egypt's Amr Ibrahim Moustafa had the fastets time of 10.35, which is a new national record.

In the women Damola Osayomi and her Ghanian rival, Vida Anim indicated that they have scores to settle from Algiers 2007. They posted 11.55 and 11.56 respectively and they will be joined by other runners such as Franca Idoko, Cameroon's Delphone Atangana, and Senegal's Aminata Diouf.
