Angola: Government Reaffirms Commitment to Media

Angolan Mass Media deputy minister, Manuel Miguel de Carvalho 'Wadijimbi´, Wednesday evening here highlighted the firm engagement of the Angolan Government with the Law, in respect and promotion of freedom of press, expression and thinking.

According to the deputy minister, the country's Government has been reaffirming to the United Nations and other national and international institutions, "firm engagement to freedom of expression and thinking, associated to the free practice of freedom of the press.

The Government official said so at the National Journalism Award ceremony, held in Tropical Cinema, in light of the festivities of Press Freedom's Day, to be marked on May 3rd, by UNESCO.

Wadijimbi explained that the National Journalism Award was established with the view to stimulate and distinguish the creativity, excellence and the professional merit as plan to the responsible and credible practice of journalism, resulting in a greater feasibility and prestige towards the society.

Manuel de Carvalho outlined the efforts of the Mass Media Ministry that took to the approval of the new Press Law, which gives more rights to the professionals and agents of the sector, as well as protection of the public interest and guarantee of the technologic progresses.
