Asmara

A pictorial exhibition portraying the rich art deco of the capital, Asmara, opened on April 23 in Lome, the capital of the West African State of Togo.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of about 300 invited guests, including Togo's Minister of Culture and Tourism and a number of ambassadors, Mr. Naizgi Gebremedhin, member of the exhibition's preparatory committee, gave a briefing on Eritrea's history and geography, including the challenges met to achieve national independence. He also outlined the historical development of Asmara, its rich art deco and efforts being exerted to preserve such a resource.

Reports indicated that about 250 students of the Building College of Lome University visited the pictorial exhibition, during which they received briefings.

The exhibition that remains open until May 15 will subsequently be staged in Lagos, Nigeria.
