Nairobi — A bandit was shot dead and an AK-47 rifle loaded with three bullets seized from him.
Administration Police officers from Gatundia confronted a group of bandits as they drove away cattle from a former civic leader's home, Laikipia West district commissioner Frederick Sishia said on Thursday.
A villager was injured in the crossfire as the bandits and the officers exchanged fire.
Mr Sishia said police patrols had been intensified in Rumuruti Division.
Gun runners
An operation to seize illegal guns would be launched soon, he said and commended wananchi for being helpful to the APs.
Their information had enabled the officers combat rustlers, said the district commissioner.
Police in Isiolo seized two M16 rifles after a shoot-out with gun runners.
Area head of police Crispin Makhanu said the incident occurred at Burat II in West Location.
Police found six men negotiating the sale of several weapons. The men, who were wearing red khangas, started shooting at the officers before abandoning the guns and fled.
