Angola: Govt Official Acknowledges Journalists Efforts for Country's Development

Angola's minister of Culture Boaventura Cardoso on Thursday highlighted the performance, devotion and zeal of national journalists in the transmission of credible information on Angola and the world.

Addressing ANGOP, after attending the National Journalism Prize Gala, held in Luanda, Boaventura Cardoso said his satisfaction is due to the fact that media professionals have been doing a deeper, objective, rigorous and impartial journalism, taking into account the principles that permeate this profession.

"Nowadays, contrary to previous years, there is a more objective, impartial and rigours journalism, a fact that can be confirmed by the excellent work that has been presented to the public. Therefore, I seize the occasion to congratulate the Social Communication Ministry and journalists for the efforts they have been making for Angola", he emphasised.

Boaventura Cardoso added that the Angolan journalism has been growing, now having its own dynamic, fruit of the efforts of the journalists and the Social Communication Ministry, in raising more and more the training level of journalists. "These actions are showed in the quality of the works reflected in the pluralism of ideas by all professionals", he explained.

Commenting on the award of prizes for the first time, he said the jury had the merit of assessing and acknowledgingthe quality of the works presented by the journalists.

The winners of the prizes were Joana Tomas and Rui Teixeira (reporter and cameraman, respectively, with the state-run TPA television station) in the area of television.

The team that edit the Dossier section, a column of the state-owned daily newspaper "Jornal de Angola", in the press category.
