The journalist and director of the private radio station LAC, Luísa Fançony, and the reporter of the public television TPA, Joana Tomás, are among the winners of the first state-sponsored National Journalism Prize, whose award ceremony took place last Wednesday night, in Luanda's Tropical Cinema.

The event was also attended by the country's Speaker of the National Assembly, Roberto de Almeida.

In glamour, the guests heard the president of the jury- the journalist and MP Adelino de Almeida- announce the winners of the fourth categories of this contest, which distinguished Joana Tomás and Rui Teixeira, respectively reporter and cameraman of the TPA station, in the television category.

The team of the Dossier section, a weekend column of Angola's state-owned newspaper "Jornal de Angola" dedicated to the analysis and report about various aspects of the Angolan way of life, won the prize in the press category.

For radio, the jury awarded the prize to the journalist and also director of the private radio station LAC, Luisa Fançony, for her journalistic work, in a career that spans forty years.

For the category of photojournalism, the winner was the photographer from the private newspaper Angolense, Ampe Rogério.

The head of the jury explained that the choice was done in observance of the technical and thematic quality of the winners.

"These works have presented a diversity of information and opinion. We took into account the creativity, objectivity, value and clarity of the articles that we analysed", he said.

The jury, according to Adelino de Almeida, also had in consideration the performance and the journalists' sense of opportunity, whose works have deserved the award of the National Journalism Prize.

Besides a statuette and a diploma, the awarded journalists have also received a USD 30,000 cheque. The National Journalism Prize, promoted by the government, through the Ministry of Social Communication, aims at valorising journalists and provide a greater specialisation in domains of press, television, radio, and photojournalism.
