It is one year today since the Kenya Airways (KQ) Flight 105 crashed in Douala, Cameroon, killing all 114 people aboard.

As the airline staff, family and friends of the victims mark the first anniversary today, the actual cause of the crash is yet to be known.

Initially, experts pointed a finger at the hostile weather and Atlantic Ocean currents, but a scientific conclusion is yet to be released.

The possible cause of the crash was also put as dual engine flameout during heavy weather.

Several clues had pointed to this direction - the short time the plane was in the air, the distress call issued by the aircraft (but later disputed), the meteorological reports at the time of the crash, and the nose-down position of the wreckage.

Experts at the time said this was consistent with the plane losing power, attempting to glide back to the airport, and stalling.

Other experts said lightning had played a role in the crash.

Consequently, the National Transportation Board of the US and other international stakeholders sent investigation teams to Cameroon. None has, however, given the reasons why KQ 105 crashed.

On May 8, last year, "Kenya Airways chief pilot, Mr James Ouma (who has since been sacked), told a news conference in Nairobi that Kenyan investigators believed the jet had crashed about 30 seconds after takeoff. Officials in Cameroon had said earlier that they lost contact with the jet 11 to 13 minutes into the flight."

On May 12, DNA testing of relatives of the victims was done in Douala to identify the remains. The flight data recorder was recovered, and Kenya subsequently requested that the 'black box' be analysed in Canada, not the US or Europe.

The analysis took place in Canada and was completed on May 30.

All they need to do is keep us updated. The stories that are now coming out about looting and about body parts that are apparently STILL at the site - are very distressing. I feel your pain!
