Huambo

Angolan media professionals Saturday in Huambo called on the Government to secure informative dependence and pluralism for a successful journalistic coverage of the elections.

This was one of the recommendations from the seminar on electoral coverage held on March 2-3, with the participation of journalists of public and private media organs from the central provinces of Huambo, Benguela, Bié and Kuanza-Sul.

The participants concluded that in performing their duties within the framework of the elections, journalists are expected to observe the electoral law, the code of electoral conduct and other concerned legislation.

The meeting also spoke of the need for journalists to observe the ethic and deontological principles of the profession, taking into account their being an element of social consensus.

They recommended the media organs to clearly define the purposes and strategies of electoral coverage, and get equipped with the human and technical resources, to the benefit of a dynamic and successful activity.

The participants expressed satisfaction at the initiative of the Social Communication Ministry in organising the seminar, thus saluting the world press freedom day, May 3.

The journalists said the seminar is an important means for exchange of experience, reinforce their knowledge and improve their service to the public.

Supported by Huambo government, the seminar was lectured by the journalists Ismael Mateus, Isidro Sanhanga and Albino Carlos.
