Nigeria: Nesrea Got Office Accommodation in Lafia

Nasarawa State government said, it has approve office accommodation and official resident for National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), in Lafia.

This followed a directive by president Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, for every state in the federation to setup NESREA.

In a statement signed by Head, Press and Public Relations to the Nasarawa State government, and made available to LEADERSHIP Sunday, hinted that the state governor, Alhaji Akure Doma, ordered that the agency should commence operations in the allocated field immediately.

Doma, however, commended president Umaru Yar'Adua, for setting up NESREA to specifically cater for nation's environmental needs which according to him (Doma), has become an issue worldwide.

The governor, who was speaking while receiving the high powered delegation of NESREA, Led by its director general, Dr. Ngeri S. Benebo, said that the he is overjoyed to have the presence of NESREA in the state which need partnership and cooperation.

Responding, the Director general of NESREA, Dr. Ngeri S. Benebo, thanked the governor for is kind gesture and approval of the office accommodation.

She however, praise the governor for his wonderful strides in moving Nigeria's "Home of Solid Minerals" forward.

The Director-General further commended the Government's ongoing independent power plant project at Farin Ruwa Development Area of the State, as well as, the Housing Development and road constructions which are there for all to see.

She said that the setting up of NESREA's office in Lafia will help create more jobs, promote environmental consciousness and above all a cleaner and healthier environment for the people of Nasarawa State.

Meanwhile, Ogun State Government has boosted its National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) South-West zonal operations with a promise of an office accommodation to be located in Otta, the industrial enclave of the State.

Alhaji Salimot Makanjuola Badru, the Deputy Governor of the State who represented the Executive Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, made this promise while receiving a high powered delegation from NESREA led by Dr. Ngeri S. Benebo, during a courtesy visit on Tuesday 29 April, 2008 at the State House, Abeokuta.

While Announcing Ogun State readiness to partner with NESREA to achieve results on all issues pertaining to enforcement of environmental laws, admitted that NESREA is on the right path to ensure the effective implementation of her mandate.

Badru declared that part of the challenges facing Ogun State was how to contend with the frequent dumping of wastes along Ibafo, a border town in Ogun State.
