Uganda's chances of winning a medal at the ongoing Africa Senior Athletics Championships have faded fast following Justine Bayiga's shocking blooper here yesterday morning.

Bayiga, the most experienced runner on the Ugandan team, turned up 15 minutes late for the 200m heats, meant to begin 9:30a.m. at the Addis Ababa Stadium.

"The coach told me the race begins at 10:30, so I took my time. But on arriving, the second Heat which I was supposed to take part in was almost underway. Other runners were on the starting line yet I had not warmed up," a saddened Bayiga lamented.

By international standards, all competitors must be at the venue an hour before their races but team manager Lawrence Kavuma blamed Bayiga's demise on miscommunication.
