Home Affairs Minister, Ronnie Shikapwasha, has urged churches in the country to unite if they are to be relevant to society. Lieutenant-General Shikapwasha said without unity, the churches were of no importance to the country.

Speaking at the Deliverance Church's ninth anniversary celebrations in Lusaka yesterday, Gen Shikapwasha, who is a reverend, said there was need for the church to remain focused and united in addressing various challenges being faced in Zambia.

He said there was need for the church to supplement Government efforts especially in reducing poverty. He said Government alone could not manage to bring about development, hence the need for the church to also come on board. The minister pledged K5 million towards construction of a clinic and a school by the church. He urged other stakeholders to support the two projects being undertaken by the church. "The Bible says it is a blessing to give rather than to receive. Let us all learn to give in order to receive more. It is important to give, that is what God demands us to do," he said.

The minister commended Fortune Mwize, the founder pastor of the Deliverance Church, for capturing many people to the Kingdom of God.

He said the church had grown bigger over the last nine years. And Pastor Mwize commended congregants for the support they had rendered to the church from the time it was established.
