Kampala — THE Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) commanders have asked their leader, Joseph Kony to either sign the peace agreement or fight until they overthrow the regime in Kampala, Gulu Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Col. Walter Ochora has said.
"You know I monitor what takes place in the LRA camp on a daily basis; the latest I have heard is that the LRA commanders have put Kony to task and given him two conditions: to talk peace or fight and take over Kampala. They are now walking towards Ri-Kwangba," Ochora disclosed at a workshop organised by the Police for MPs, RDCs, LC5 chairpersons, army representatives and internal security officers from Acholi and Lango sub-regions at Hotel Pearl Afrique in Gulu on Friday.
Chua MP Livingstone Okello-Okello urged Ochora to use his contacts with the LRA commanders to influence Kony to sign the final peace agreement.
The Police Commissioner for Community Affairs, Asan Kasingye, said there was need for the presence of the Police to be felt in all sub-counties as the war in northern Uganda comes to an end. He said this would ensure security, law and order and foster the resettlement of internally displaced persons.
Ochora also said for accountability purposes it was important to establish the exact number of children who were abducted by the LRA.
