Kampala — IF the private sector supported the Government's health insurance scheme, it would take off faster, a minister has said.
Richard Nduhura, the state minister for health, speaking at Bushenyi District's Labour Day celebrations, complained that some employers are against the policy because they do not want to contribute towards the health of their workers.
He advised the workers to form unions through which they can contribute money for their health insurance.
The minister said in neighbouring countries like Tanzania and Rwanda the policy has already been adopted or accepted.
Nduhura said the scheme would begin with civil servants.
Earlier, George Garuga the secretary for National Union for Plantational Works (NUPAWO) had appealed to the government to extend medical services to the labour camps.
"We are human beings and our rights must be protected. We need government services especially medical services like the information about the HIV/AIDS," Garuga said.
