Luanda — The Angolan writer Artur Pestana "Pepetela" will launch on May 6 at the Portuguese Cultural Centre, in Luanda, his new novel entitled "O quase fim do Mundo" (The near end of the world).
Published by Dom Quixote, the book is the 13th of the novel writer, Pepetela, in which fiction and historical facts are closely related.
The writer, who has a degree in Sociology, started his career in the 1970's with the novel "As Aventuras de Ngunga".
Being one of the references of the Angolan literary scene, he has released books like "Muana Puó" (1978), "Mayombe" (1980), "O Cão e os Calus" (1985), "Yaka" (1985), "Lueji, o Nascimento de um Império" (1989) e "A geração da Utopia" (1994), among others.
A Sociology lecturer at the public Architecture Faculty, the writer has won various prizes such as National Culture and Arts Award (2002), Camões Prize (1997), for all his literary work and in 2002 he was awarded the Rio Branco Order of Merit, in Brazil.
Author of "Luandando", a set of chronicles about Luanda city, Pepetela published also tales such as "A Gloriosa Família, o Tempo dos Flamingos", "O Desejo de Kianda", "A Parábola do Cágado Velho", "A Montanha da Água Lilás, fábula para todas as idades" and the fiction "Jaime Bunda, the secret agent".
