Liberia: Palm Hill Community Undertakes U.S.$98,000 Road Project

Monrovia — Residents of the Palm Hill Community in Barnersville, Montserrado County have embarked on the rehabilitation of a road project in the community estimated at US$98,000.

According to the Chairman of the area, Mr. Nathaniel T. Toe, the self-help project is intended to buttress government's reconstruction efforts.

Mr. Toe made the disclosure at a program marking the induction of officers-elect and launch of the Road rehabilitation project in the Palm Hill community recently.

Mr. Solo narrated that, although residents of the area have agreed to make contribution, but his administration would appeal to some international organizations as well as other meaningful Liberians to assist with materials and cash to complete the project.

He however did not state the exact amount each resident would contribute towards the project but assured that residents in the area were overwhelmed and cooperative to ensuring that the road is rehabilitated.

He revealed that when completed, it would serve over ten thousand inhabitants in the area and other nearby communities.

He also pointed out that residents living near the road have agreed to provide current on the road upon completion of the rehabilitation of the road.

"This is our way of helping others who do not have generators in their homes," he said.

Speaking on behalf of Monrtserrado County Superintendent, Mrs. Beauty Bacon, and Mr. Lincoln Railey assured government support to the project and urged residents to continue their good work.

He noted that the development of the country depends on every Liberians and as such, every one should get involve, adding "government alone cannot do it all, so you people must help."

Montserrado County Representative, Dave Koomey who is also resident of the area pledged ten bags of cement as his initial contribution towards the project.

Those inducted for a two year term include, Nathaniel T. Solo Chairman, Cllr. Esther Cee, Co-chairman, J. Jenkins Yancy Secretary General, Isata Momo, Financial secretary, and Decotee N. Smith Treasurer among others.
