A tenant at Check Point, Molyko, Buea was on Tuesday, April 29, slashed several times with a razorblade after disagreeing with her landlady allegedly over unpaid rents.

Jacky Gabuin, a seamstress, about 26, reportedly picked up a quarrel with her landlady, Veronica Fuh, over an increase in house rent. Gabuin told The Post that she had been paying FCFA 6,000 monthly, but her landlady suddenly increased the amount to FCFA 10,000, which she said was too high for her to pay.

The landlady allegedly locked up Gabuin's shop, after refusing to receive FCFA 36,000 from her tenant being rent for six months at FCFA 6000 monthly. The landlady reportedly later issued her a summons, The Post learned, to meet at the Buea Gendarmerie Brigade, on Monday, April 29.

Meanwhile, Gabuin had left for a new dwelling. According to Gabuin, a row broke out at the Gendarmerie Brigade between the landlady's family and hers, when the landlady's daughter, Judith Fuh, allegedly threatened to beat Gabuin when they return home.

Gabuin's elder sister, Loveline, said that fighting broke out shortly after the Brigade session that morning, leaving Jacky with razorblade wounds on her back, face and side. According to Jacky, Raissa Fuh, her landlady's grand-daughter, cut her up.The razor, the Gabuins said, was given to Raissa by her mother, to use it to "make her (Jacky's) blood to flow too," she stated.

But the landlady refuted allegations her grand-daughter slashed Jacky. She instead accused a neighbouring barber whose only name The Post got as Francis for cutting Jacky up.

According to her, Francis' intention was rather to harm her grand-daughter, Raissa. She further explained that this was due to jealousy and hatred which she claims they have been holding against her grand-daughter.

Talking about the fight, the landlady said, "The fight had nothing to do at that time with the rent. We just left the brigade and Jacky started hurling insults at my family." Attempts to reach Raissa and her mother, Judith Fuh and uncle, Fidelis Fuh were futile.

It was reported that neighbours intervened and conveyed the victim to the hospital where one Dr. Daniel Yann confirmed that Jacky sustained eight severe razor cuts on her back and three on her jaw.

Although it was unclear who inflicted the cuts, the three who allegedly beat up Jacky were momentarily kept in custody for questioning.Investigations, The Post learned, are at the level of the Buea State Council.
