The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, PCC, Rev. Nyasanko Ni Ku, joined Christians of the Etoug-Ebe Congregation in Yaoundé, April 27, to raise funds for the construction of the church.

The fund-raising brought together Christians of the PCC congregations from all over the country. The Moderator set the pace when he donated over FCFA 1 million. By the end of the event, the Christians raised FCFA 10 million.

Given the fact that Etoug-Ebe Christians had earlier contributed FCFA 5 million, a total of FCFA 15 million is now available for the construction of the Etoug-Ebe Presbyterian Church.

The occasion that took place at the makeshift church building at the Etoug-Ebe neighbourhood, was marked by euphoria as congregations, social groups and individuals sought to outdo each other in their contributions.

The 'ground breaking' committee donated FCFA 780,000 while the Bastos congregation conquered with the sum of FCFA 1.5 million.Top personalities like Prime Minister, Ephraim Inoni, Prof. Elvis Ngolle Ngolle, Ama Tutu Muna, amongst others gave huge sums of money as well.

Don't Despair

In a thrilling sermon, the Moderator called on Cameroonians to develop the galvanising spirit of always having hope even when all seems to be lost. He drew his sermon from Luke 24:24-35, and likened hopelessness in some Christians to the one in which the two disciples found themselves when Jesus was crucified in Jerusalem.

Nyansako said the two disciples were moving from Jerusalem to Emmaus in total hopelessness, just to while away time and seek to forget the terrible things that had happened.

He said when some people are confronted with problems in our society; they do not look up to Christ but take refuge in heavy drinking and smoking which they consider their Emmaus.

The Reverend said many people who are faced with broken dreams and hopelessness should listen to the quiet voice of the Lord.

He called on Cameroonians to have hope even if they live in a society where small people are crushed by the feet of the powerful. To him, the society is one where children and parents alike have become strange animals.

According to the Moderator, the Etoug-Ebe Church should be where widows, barren women, orphans and afflicted persons can find solace. He said Cameroonians need Jesus Christ more than ever before because they live in a defeated world where every hope seems to have been lost.

One elder in the church, Metuge Ekane, was the chief launcher of the fund-raising. Two CRTV journalists, Ngyetiko Musi and Mary Taka Tanni, emceed the event.
