THE Mityana district chairman, Joseph Musoke, is worried that the illegal activities on Lake Wamala would deplete fish in a few years to come, reports Luke Kagiri.

Musoke, who was last week giving a report on the state of affairs of the district during a council meeting, said fisherman were catching young fish, putting the sustainability of the lake in jeopardy.

He cited other bad practices as the selling of fish in the middle of the lake before it is delivered to the landing sites, noting that it had hampered revenue collection. People no longer benefit from the lake due to these practices."

He asked the Government for lake patrol boats.

According to the district environment officer, Yasin Bbira, the amount of fish in the lake had reduced.

The other district that neighbour Lake Wamala are Mubende and Mpigi, but Mityana takes the biggest share. Musoke asked the districts to join the drive to conserve the lake.
