Internal refugees in camps around Nairobi and Limuru are in the dark regarding their resettlement.

Visits by the Nation revealed uncertainty in the camps as the refugees gathered in anticipation of being helped to return to their homes.

Some of them had packed their belongings ready to return, but there had been no contact with the Government.

At Kirathimo camp in Limuru, the families said they hoped they would be moved next week. They demanded that food and other donated items be shared out as they prepare to go back home.

Stuff in stores

"There is a lot of stuff in the stores that was brought in by well-wishers. We just want the things to be shared out so that everyone can have something to carry home when we move out of here," said Ms Eunice Wairimu who was displaced from Narok.

Limuru district officer James Kangethe assured them that they would receive food rations as they move out of the camp.

Mr Kangethe said none of them would be forced to return to their homes. Some of the 700 refugees had expressed concern over security after relocation.

At the Muthaiga Police depot camp, refugees mainly from city slums, said they were also in the dark.
