On Monday, Kenya Airways marked the first anniversary since its plane crashed in Cameroon.

During the event at the Nairobi Pentecostal Church, the airline outlined how it would deal with claims for compensation.

It confirmed that it was ready to discuss the matters when the families were ready.

Kenya Airways said it was aware of its legal obligations to compensate the families.

The airline said full compensation had been agreed on and paid in some cases after discussion with families concerned.

"The amount payable to families is confidential," the statement from the airline said.

Relatives, friends and Kenya Airways staff at the church could not hold back tears as some narrated their last moments with their loved ones.

Speakers thanked God for keeping them strong after the crash.

Kenya Airways said investigation by Cameroon, with the help of Kenyan and US authorities, was going on. It did not, however, indicate when the findings would be made public.

"The results of the aircraft's recorders will form part of the investigation," said the statement.

It added: "It is hoped that the commission will make its findings known soon. Kenya Airways comprehends the entirely understandable wish of those who have been bereaved to know the cause of the accident".

On the airline's operations on the route, Kenya Airways said no incidents had been reported.
