Young entrepreneurs are set to be the beneficiaries of a planned review of Government procurement procedures that will see them access lucrative public contracts.

Trade assistant minister Omingo Magara said that only by incorporating young entrepreneurs into the public procurement system would the Government succeed in creating employment opportunities for the youth.

He said the Government greatly valued the potential of young entrepreneurs.

"That is why we are committed to establishing institutional frameworks that will create business opportunities in the public sector for creative youngsters engaged in business," said Mr Magara.

He was speaking recently during the launch of the Entrepreneurs Club, a Strathmore University and Pan Africa Market Intelligence initiative.

However, the minister challenged young entrepreneurs to adopt best business practices and remain proactive if they wanted to benefit from public sector tenders.

"Young entrepreneurs need to realise that they need to create systems that will allow them to challenge other successful entrepreneurs in a very competitive environment," he said.

The club will act as special purpose vehicle to offer entrepreneurship support services.

"We are committed to offering young entrepreneurs support services to ensure that their businesses are successful and that they access government contracts," said Mr George Mogambi, the club's chairman.

Mr Mogambi said that the club will run mentorship programmes aimed at exposing entrepreneurs to best practices.

He said that this would be achieved by having structured relationships with business and corporate leaders.
