Uganda: VP Urges Christians to Get Posts in Churches

Vice-President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya has urged Christians to take on leadership positions in the church. Bukenya said leadership was not limited to political and traditional spheres. He said Christians should take on church posts to play a pivotal role in the development of their communities spiritually and economically.

Bukenya was speaking at Namayumba Holy Family Church in Wakiso district after the Sunday mass.

The Vice-President, who contributed 60 iron sheets towards the completion of a classroom block for Holy Family Senior Secondary school, pledged more government support to the school.

He expressed sadness at the high poverty levels among Catholics and urged the Church leaders to start economic activities among its followers right from the family, through the sub-parish up to the diocesan level.

Father Edward Ssebikoola, the parish priest, said Jesus Christ resurrected to strengthen and continue His message among Christians for eternal life.

He said Uganda should not scrap religious education from the academic syllabus sinceâ-‚students spend most of their time in school. He warned that that a people without religion are ungovernable and can easily lead to anarchy.
