SOUTH Africa dominated the 16th edition of the Africa Senior Athletics championships here as Ugandans were reduced to mere competitors. Javelin thrower Annet Kabasindi and Patrick Kibwota were Uganda's best performers in the biennial event.

Only countries with athletes finishing in the top eight in the finals earn points. Uganda's men finished 20th and the women 26th.

* BONIFACE Kiprop finished second in the highly billed Bupa Great Edinburgh Run on Sunday.

The 10000m Commonwealth champion has shown that he still has to work on his finishing sprint, after he was outpaced in the last 100m by Kenyan Bernard Kipyego in the 10km road run.

Kiprop had together with Kipyego and France's Hassan Lahsinni taken the lead in the race that attracted over 30 elite runners.
