The Secretary General of the Private Sector Federation (PSF), Emmanuel Hategeka, has appealed to Kigali City Council (KCC) authorities to put an end the confusion and mismanagement of signposts in the city.

The appeal to take action to stop the confusion of signposts was made city authorities last week during the launch of Kigali Investor's Forum at Hotel Novotel.

"We need a systematic procedure to follow when someone is erecting a sign post in the city, signposts have created confusion in the city centre," Hategeka said of the many billboards and signposts which struggle for space.

Plans to contact concerned KCC authorities were futile but one high-ranking official who asked not to be named said the KCC had standing instructions for anyone wishing to erect a signpost.

"Every signpost erected on Kigali roadsides has to first subscribe with us to verify whether its location will not cause traffic hazards," the official said. The source said that currently the City Council deals with well organized advertising agencies.

"We directly deal with advertising agencies not with individuals and we believe the procedure will help in ending the confusion and the astounding number of billboards in the city," he added.
