Nigeria's chances of winning more medals at the Beijing 2008 Olympics suffered a jolt in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia when African champion, Olusoji Fasuba picked up an injury.

Fasuba suffered a hamstring pull during warm up for the relay event at the African Championships. However, Athletics Federation of Nigeria

technical and performance director, Sunday Bada assured that the World indoor 60m champion will recover on time to resume his training towards

the Olympics.

"It is a minor injury and we expect that he will be okay in a matter of days. This was the reason we decided to rest him for the relays,"

Bada said.

Fasuba is key to Nigeria's success at the Olympics. He has a good chance of winning an individual medal in the 100m and also his speed is

needed by the team for the relay.

His importance was highlighted at the last All Africa Games in Algiers, when a faulty exchange between Chinedu Oriala and Obinna Metu put the

team in great disadvantage. It was Fasuba that made redemption as he came from behind to sweep the field.

His absence was the reason the Nigeria 4x100m quartet failed to impress at the final day of the African Championships. Deji Aliu, Uchenna

Emedolu, Obinna Metu and Durotoye Adetuyi could not make a smooth exchange and they did not finish the race.

Bada said that there is much work to be done on the relay teams, if Nigeria is to make any impact at Beijing 2008."We have seen our areas of weakness at the Championships. And we are going to correct them in the months ahead."
