The Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA) over the weekend ended its 1st. and 2nd. quarterly assemblies in Monrovia. The program brought together most of Liberia's finest lawyers who deliberated on some important judicial issues.
Speaking at the close of the program, the President of LNBA, Cllr. Osward Tweh said during the past years lawyers in the country under the Liberia National Bar Association have worked assiduously to bring credibility to the judicial system in the country.
Cllr. Tweh noted that some of the ills corrected by the LNBA include challenging the appointment of some judges by the President and calling on the Liberian leader to withdraw the appointment of those judges.
He said recently the government of Liberia, the private sector with the participation of civil society organizations singed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) whereby the parties committed themselves at which time the government of Liberia agreed to make public all information relative to revenue generated from the nation's natural resources and the expenditure thereof.
He said the Liberian Bar being a member of the steering committee of the Attractive Industry Transparency Initiative of Liberia was a signatory of the MOU between the government and the other parties.
He said during the cerebration of Law Day which was observed by members of the Bar Association on penultimate Friday, the Bar Association received a consignment of law books from CREDO, a Church related organization for its National Library.
Cllr. Tweh then added that over the past years, the Bar Association has visited several schools in Monrovia, Harbel, and Kakata, Margibi County where it distributed several educational materials including the Liberian Constitution to students of those institutions for the empowerment of the children who are the future leaders of the country.
Cllr. Tweh then used the occasion to inform his colleagues on a tour that was undertaken by a high powered judicial delegation that visited several parts of the United States.
