Monrovia — The Executive Director of the Action for Greater Harvest (AGRHA), who is also the Board Chairman of the Micro Finance Network of Liberia, departed the country over the weekend at the head of a two-man delegation for Kampala, Uganda.
Mr. Dee-Maxwell S. Kemayah, Sr. and delegation are in Uganda to attend an international conference under the theme, "External Factors and Micro Finance in Africa: Major Stakes and Challenges, as well as the Bi-Annual Assembly of MAIN, which will take place at the Imperial Hotel, Block No.B, 5, Plot 18, Kintu Road in Kampala, Uganda. It would take place from May 5-9.
A statement from AGRHA said Mr. Kemayah and delegation are in Uganda at the invitation and support of the Micro Finance Institutions in Uganda (AMFIU), the Uganda Martyrs' University (UMU) and the Centenary Rural Development Bank (CERUDEB).
Attending the conference also with the AGRHA boss as a member of the delegation is Mrs. Angeline Ossegge, Executive Director of LEAP, a local Microfinance institution.
Through the recommendation and support of AGRHA, LEAP became the second Liberian institution to be a full fledged member of the MAIN. Before LEAP could become a member, AGRHA was the first and the only Liberian institution to be a full fledged member of MAIN.
The Micro Finance African Institutions Network known as MAIN, for short is an international association comprising of more than 100 member institutions from Africa, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
More than 200 Microfinance operators, banks, regulatory bodies, networks, international partners and other stakeholders from Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Asia would debate at the conference and reflect on external factors that may impact on the sustainability of Micro Finance.
Meanwhile, while Mr. Kemayah is away, Mr. Gabriel B.F. Sherman will serve as Acting Executive Director of AGRHA and also conduct the affairs of the Micro Finance Network of Liberia pending the resumption of official duties by Mr. Kemayah on May 12, 2008.
