Southern Africa: SADC Troika Leaves for Zimbabwe

Luanda — A delegation of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Troika left Tuesday Luanda city for Harare, Zimbabwe, to hold various talks with the local authorities and follow up the current situation in that country.

SADC Troika heads to Zimbabwe, after holding a meeting at the weekend in Luanda, where it announced the assessment of the needs so that the sub-regional body can take some decision aiming at helping the electoral process, following the release of the results which prompted a second round of the polls.

In that SADC country, the delegation will meet with the outgoing president, Robert Mugabe, with the leader of the main opposition party, Morgan Tsvangirai and members of the Election Commission.

The team comprises the ministers of Foreign Affairs of Angola, João Miranda, of Swaziland, Mathendele Dlaminie, Tanzania's deputy minister of Defence and National Services, Emmanuel Nchimbi, and the executive secretary of the organization, Tomaz Salomão.

After Zimbabwe, the members of Troika will travel to Lusaka, Zambia, to present to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) chairperson, Levy Mwanawassa, the results of the meeting held in Luanda.

SADC groups 14 States, namely Angola, South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Mozambique, Malawi, Madagascar, Mauritius, DR Congo, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
