Angola: Legislative Elections an Example to World - Ruling Party MP

The leader of the parliamentary seat of the ruling MPLA party, Bornito de Sousa Monday here said that organs in charge of organising the legislative elections are creating conditions, in order to guarantee enough number of polling stations, to avoid the crowding of voters and long waiting periods.

Speaking at a press conference, Bornito de Sousa said that MPLA and the entire Angolan society hope that the elections, which are set for next September, happen without constraints and become an example to Africa and to the world.

"MPLA, as the ruling party, has great responsibilities in building and consolidating democratic institutions and in securing the wellbeing of the population, therefore the need of mobilising Angolans towards a common project", added the MP.

He stressed that his party is ready to encourage its militants and citizens in general, for the need to get acquainted with the contents of the Electoral Law and the Code of Electoral Conduct, in order for the elections to happen without hindrances.

In this viewpoint, the official stated exactly that the agenda of the his party's 3rd national conference, to be held on Friday and Saturday, and it includes, among other aspects the electoral strategy, in a debate under the topic "MPLA 2008 legislative elections", to which the delegates will carry out a deep analysis.

Bornito de Sousa referred that the project of his party aims at mobilising its militants and its women and youth wings (OMA and JMPLA), respectively, in order for them to serve as an example in sensitising citizens towards voting in the elections.

The main idea of this process is to make people understand that in time peace, the government of MPLA can create stability, preserve national unity and the country's integrity, stressed the MP, naming as example the deeds already carried out in only six years after the end of the armed conflict.

About 15000 delegates shall attend the national conference, from which 124 are not members of the party and belong to different sectors, invited due to their technical and professional capacities, in order for them to give their contribution to MPLA's governance project for the 2009-2012 quadrennial.
