Luanda — The assistant minister to Prime Minister, Aguinaldo Jaime, Tuesday in Luanda considered that a serious engagement in the acquisition of new technologies is a key premise for the betterment of human development indicators in the Southern African country.
According to the government official, who was speaking at the opening of a roundtable on "innovation, sciences and technology diagnosis", the resort to these technologies, apart from lowering such indicator in Angola, will enable the people to win the battle against hunger, poverty and underdevelopment.
In his opinion, the discussion of a study drafted by the Ministry of Sciences and Technology in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) aims to gather contributions for the elaboration of national strategy in sciences and technology sphere.
Despite the economic growth registered since 2002, the aide of Angolan Prime Minister said that it is important to transform the agenda of stability into sustainable development.
He affirmed that taking into account the current challenges of national reconstruction and social stabilisation, the Angolan government attributes a key role to the sector of technologies, as well as staff training process.
The policy to be drafted has among other goals the acquisition of technologies of innovation promotion, identification of strong points and current weaknesses of government policy for the sector, cooperation opportunities, as well as improving the access of the population to these tools.
It also seeks to show the positive impact of adoption of these innovations in the fields of education, health, industry, agriculture, among others.
During the one-day long meeting, the participants will discuss, among other issues, the framework of sciences, technology and innovation, its impact on the national economy, as well as its main challenges.
The event is being attended by the minister of Sciences and Technology, , João Baptista Ngandagina, his deputy minister Pedro Teta, staff of the Ministry, representatives from UNPD among other bodies.
